Mont Saint Michel.

We left at 7 AM. On the bus ready to go, we headed towards normandy a four hour long journey (3 hours driving 1 hour resting). I was excited, but not EXCITED. I’ll admit this time around i’m a little jaded by historical things. i realize that i shouldn’t be, but nonetheless i’ve had a harder time being impressed and excited about historical structures. Anyways, I’m in France, what could be better than that?

If you know anything about Mont Saint Michel you’ll know that it’s an island. This island though is only surrounded bywater when the tide comes in, other than that it’s just yards and yards of sand. Donc (so), when we arrived we drove through the country and from a distance you could see Mont Saint Michel in all it’s glory hiding in the fog.(P2) This place is seriously spectacular.

We had about an hour to kill before our french only tour and then we would meet at the top. With only one road to the top, there were hundreds of people(tourists) all trying to get to the same place. Being the fast walker I am, once at the top waiting for our tour we enjoyed a nice nutella crepe.

once the tour started we continued on up to the top. we had about 100 steps left. i blocked all that climbing from my memory of the previous trip-c’est vrai (it’s true) when you travel in europe expect to climb lots of stairs. [-sidenote- at my school  i climb 4 floors everyday at a slant, i'll have a great ass by the end of this.] moving on, we get to the top and our tour is only infrench, so naturally being the impatient person i am with english tours, i zone out. But what i gathered is once it was a prison. it was built before 1000. that’s pretty much it. after following the tour guide for about 5 rooms, i convinced my friends to ditch the tour and i would be the tour guide, with my mini MSM pamphlet that led us to the end. If i do say myself, i think i’m quite a good tour guide. I get right to the point.

All in all this place was very impressive, how it was built is just amazing! Especially in comparison to the construction we do today. There is very little artist architecture out there now, and if it is, it’s a lot easier to build.

so maybe not as amazing as the acropolis, but breathtaking nonetheless.

french cuisine.

i’ll be honest, being motivated to blog is going to be hard until i get a real schedule where i’m not tired at night, going back to my insomnia. so bare with me as i get settled.

food is an issue, i’ve declared that before, but here it’s just so different i don’t know how to handle it. i’ll admit to picky eating, but i’ll try anything. the first night we ate beet salad, with beet flavored salad dressing. this was not fabulous. next part was trout from loire valley, which still was not fabulous. this dinner was not starting me off on a good start.

friday we visited chenonceau where for lunch i spent 15 euros on a seared steak. again not a good day. but luckily for dinner that night we had a much better dinner, with rillettes, pickles, beans, and to top it off creme brulee. it was a successful evening.

saturday i ate a tomato quiche-it was perfect. that’s the only thing i have eaten that i have taken a picture of.

sunday we went to the market in amboise. it’s like an outdoor walmart; with lawnmowers, vegetables and fruit, clothes and toiletries. most importantly the french have the best strawberries, red all the way through and soft but not mushy.

it’s been a long couple of days, being a tourist is hard an annoying-as a tourist i can say i hate tourist. we are awful when we are in groups-i hate not being able to independent, so i’m glad classes start tomorrow and i can be on my own.

this is just a food update, i’ll post another one soon on the sites i saw.

à bientôt
